About the event
The 40 Hours Prayer originated in the sixteenth century, in large part as a response to the civil and ecclesial unrest following the Reformation. The number of hours commemorates the time tradition recounts that our Blessed Lord spent in the tomb. Over the centuries this devotion has been a source of great reconciliation, both in the Church and the world, and of support to those in strife. The Capuchins were instrumental in establishing this devotion throughout Europe and now hope to offer it to the Church in Australia.
The intention for this event is for peace in the world and charity in our hearts; a theme drawn from Pope Leo XIV's message inaugurating this Jubilee year of St Francis. And so the Capuchin Friars invite you—join us as we spend these 40 continuous hours in prayer and adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Let us pray for peace and security…
